Fuente de Piedra
February 9 2011

Dear reader!

At 11 a.m. it still had dense fog in Fuente de Piedra and temperatures were around 4°C, but …

… one hour later the sun was shining:

The inhabitants …

… of the lagoon near Cantarranas …

… all went for …

… the daily search for food:

But at least 4 Marsh Harriers caused a stir. Not only among the feathered friends. But also for us!

At each of their overflights …

…the Pied Avocets and some Black-tailed Godwits horrified took flight and …

… were looking for shelter at the brave Lapwings, which …

… before even chased away the always a little bit perky Stilts:

"Embarrasing that was!"

But also the bravest Lapwings preferred to seek shelter because of the Marsh Harriers just in front of our observation place, as well as …

… this green Sandpiper:

"I feel extremely uncomfortabel, but maybe you could take care of me?"

And this was, when for the first time I saw a Common Snipe in full size and beauty directly in front of me:

We just enjoyed this day until the last sunbeam and saw on the way back to the car …

… even this group of cranes:

But the real protagonists of the day were the Marsh Harriers, who …

… again and again enthrall us with their perfect flying style:

Of course there were at Fuente de Piedra also Falmingos around whose excited wedding sounds was a wonderuful background music. Well and a Bluethroat also landed directly in front of us, but unfortunately I couldn't make any photo to remember.

What a wonderful day!

Best regards

Birgit
